Moving Your Power Music to a New Device

Installing the Power Music App on a New Device

Many users are upgrading to a new computer as their current PC/Mac reaches the end of its life. This guide explains how to install Power Music on your new device and transfer your songs, playlists, and other data.

Your Product Key

Before you begin, check your existing Power Music licence(s) using the FAQ below.

Please note: Product Keys are platform-specific. For example, a Windows Product Key cannot be used on a Mac or iPad.

You can download the latest version of Power Music here.

Transferring Your Songs and Playlists

There are three ways to transfer your songs, playlists, annotations, and notes to a new device.

If you are moving to a different platform (for example, Windows to Mac or iPad), you must use Method 2 – Power Music Box.

Method 1: Backup and Restore (Power Music Professional)

You’ll need a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or a shared folder on a NAS.

  1. On your current computer, open Power Music and select File > Backup.
  2. Save the backup to your external storage.
  3. On your new computer, install Power Music.
  4. Select File > Restore and choose the backup you created.

Important: Backup and Restore only works between devices running the same platform. For example, Windows to Windows.

Mac and iPad users: Backup and Restore is also available in the Mac and iPad editions of Power Music for transferring data to another Mac or iPad.

Method 2: Power Music Box (Cloud Storage)

Power Music Box is the easiest way to transfer your music library and is the only method that works between different platforms, such as Windows, Mac, and iPad.

  1. Sign in to your Power Music Box account on your current device.
  2. Upload your songs, playlists, and other data.
  3. Sign in to the same account on your new device.
  4. Download your library.

If you have a Free or Starter account and a large music library, you may need to upload your files in several batches.

If you have a Power User or Lifetime Power Music Box account, you’ll have plenty of storage space for your entire library.

Method 3: Copy the Cambron Software Folder

You’ll need a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or a shared folder on a NAS.

  1. Open your Documents folder on your current computer.
  2. Copy the entire Cambron Software folder to your external storage.
  3. On your new computer, paste the folder into the Documents folder.

This method transfers all of your Power Music data, but it also copies additional files that aren’t essential, such as database backups and files from previous installations.

Power Music is now a very “mature” product. It has been under constant development since 2007! This FAQ will help you find out all you need to know about the version of Power Music you are using and how to manage your Power Music licence.
